PPSX to JPG API

POST /v2/convert/ppsx/to/jpg returns one JPEG for every slide the show would play. With ImageWidth=1920 and ImageQuality=80, our museum loop came back as five 1,920 × 1,080 frames weighing 96,759 to 140,411 bytes each.

A six-slide welcome loop for a fictional harbor museum, set to advance by itself, with one hidden staff slide. We made it for this page. (CC0-1.0). How it was made

Parameters

Send these as form fields next to the file. Names are case-insensitive. If you set one of the documented options below that we don't support yet, the request fails with a 400 that names it instead of returning a file made without it.

ParameterWhat it does
ImageWidthintegerExact width in pixels. The height follows the slide's own 16:9 shape, so 1920 gives 1,920 × 1,080.Values: 1–20,000
ImageHeightintegerExact height instead: ImageHeight=720 gave 1,280 × 720 frames, and 1080 gave 1,920 × 1,080.Values: 1–20,000
ScaleProportionsboolean, default trueWith both sizes sent, false stretches the slide to fill that box: 1920 by 1200 gave 1,920 × 1,200, where the default fits the slide inside as 1,920 × 1,080. For a 16:9 box such as 1920 by 1080 both settings return the same file.
ImageResolutioninteger, default 150Pixels per inch of slide when no size is set: 1,999 × 1,125 at the default, 1,279 × 720 at 96. Sent explicitly, the value is written into the JPEG header as its DPI.Values: 36–600
ImageQualityinteger, default 85JPEG quality. The opening-hours frame at 1,920 wide was 152,018 bytes at 85 and 137,621 at 80. ConvertAPI's default is 75.Values: 1–100
PageRangestringFrames to render, numbered after hidden slides are dropped. 2 returns only the hours frame, as pilot-house-welcome-2.jpg.Values: e.g. 2, 1-3
ConvertHiddenSlidesboolean, default falseRender hidden slides too. The staff checklist then becomes frame 4 and you get 6 JPEGs.
ColorSpaceenum, default defaultgray writes one-channel JPEGs: 81,542 bytes for the navy welcome frame at 150 DPI.Values: default, rgb, gray, monochrome
PasswordstringFor a show saved with a password. Without it, a protected file returns 422.
FileNamestringStart of each frame's name; the API adds -1.jpg, -2.jpg and so on.

Not supported yet

Setting one of these to anything but its default returns 400.

OptionWhat to do instead
ConvertSpeakerNotesNotes are not drawn on the frames. Values other than Disabled return 400 "ConvertSpeakerNotes is not supported yet for PPSX files".
PageSizeFrames keep the slide's shape; size them with ImageWidth or ImageHeight.

What carries over, and what doesn't

Kept

  • Full-bleed slide backgrounds: frame 1 is navy to the edges, frame 5 sand
  • The visitor chart with its axis labels and legend, drawn at the frame's resolution
  • The lighthouse picture and the red holiday-hours line
  • Show order in the names, from pilot-house-welcome-1.jpg to -5.jpg

Lost or not yet supported

  • Timing, fades and the loop. You get still frames; the player decides how long each one stays up.
  • Clean edges on text: JPEG leaves faint noise around letters. PNG has none.
  • Calibri, drawn as Carlito at the same widths.
  • The hidden staff slide and the speaker notes, unless you ask for hidden slides.

Limits

  • 2,000 frames per request at most.
  • 16,000 pixels per side and 100 million per frame: ImageWidth=16001 returns 413.
  • 10 MB on the Free plan or 100 MB on paid plans per request, 120 seconds per conversion, then 504.

Where teams use it

Signage players and TVs that show pictures

A screen that plays a folder of images can't run a .ppsx. Export the loop as 1,920 × 1,080 JPEGs with ImageWidth=1920 and set the player to the 8 seconds per slide that the show used.

One slide for a newsletter or a post

PageRange=2 returns only the opening-hours frame, ready to drop into an email or a social post without screenshots.

Questions

Why is the default frame 1,999 pixels wide and not 2,000?

The sample's slide is 13.333 inches, 959.98 points, wide. Drawn at the default 150 pixels per inch that comes out at 1,999 × 1,125. Sizes you send are worked out from the slide itself, not from that render, so ImageWidth=1920 gives exactly 1,920 × 1,080.

How much do the 1,920-wide frames weigh?

At ImageWidth=1920 and quality 80, the five 1,920 × 1,080 frames total 622,316 bytes. The largest, 140,411 bytes, is the lamp-room slide with the lighthouse picture; the opening-hours table is 137,621, and the plain thank-you slide 96,759.

Can I get every slide in one file?

Not as JPEG: each slide is its own entry in Files. For a single file, use /v2/convert/ppsx/to/pdf or a multi-page TIFF from /v2/convert/ppsx/to/tiff.

Does the JPEG record a DPI?

Only when you send ImageResolution. At ImageResolution=96 the header says 96 DPI; the 1,920-wide sample, sized with ImageWidth, has none.
