PPSX to PPTX API
POST /v2/convert/ppsx/to/pptx re-saves a PowerPoint show as an ordinary deck, so it no longer declares itself a slide show. Our 46,987-byte museum loop came back as a 43,988-byte .pptx with all six slides, the hidden one included.

Parameters
Send these as form fields next to the file. Names are case-insensitive. If you set one of the documented options below that we don't support yet, the request fails with a 400 that names it instead of returning a file made without it.
| Parameter | What it does |
|---|---|
Passwordstring | Opens a protected show; without it, or with a wrong one, the answer is 422. The deck that comes back has no password. |
FileNamestring | Name of the deck: FileName=pilot-house-editable returns pilot-house-editable.pptx. |
StoreFileboolean, default false | Keep the .pptx on our side for 3 hours and return a link to it. |
Not supported yet
Setting one of these to anything but its default returns 400.
| Option | What to do instead |
|---|---|
ConvertHiddenSlides | Hidden slides stay in the deck, still hidden. true returns 400 "ConvertHiddenSlides is not supported yet for PPSX files". |
IncludeMetadata | Title and author are kept; false returns 400. |
What carries over, and what doesn't
Kept
- All six slides in order, with the staff checklist still marked hidden
- The fade and the 8-second automatic advance on every slide
- The loop setting of the show
- The desk volunteers' note on slide 2
- The column chart as a chart, with its numbers stored in it
- The table, the lighthouse picture, the slide backgrounds and 11 slide layouts
Lost or not yet supported
- Kiosk mode. The loop flag survives but the kiosk setting doesn't, so the show type is back to the default.
- The setting that stopped clicks from advancing slides: in the new file a click moves on again.
- The workbook behind the chart. The original package embeds a small spreadsheet with the chart data; the new one has none.
Limits
- One show per request, up to 10 MB on the Free plan or 100 MB on paid plans.
- 120 seconds per conversion; the .pptx can be up to 512 MB.
Where teams use it
Fixing a show that only arrives as .ppsx
A lobby loop may reach you only as a .ppsx. Convert the file, correct the opening hours in any editor, and send the corrected deck back to whoever publishes the loop.
Code that refuses slide shows
Some deck libraries check the declared type and reject a .ppsx; a widely used Python one does. The converted file declares itself a presentation and opened there with all six slides.
Questions
Isn't renaming .ppsx to .pptx enough?
Renaming changes the extension only: inside the package, [Content_Types].xml still declares a slide show. The converted file declares a presentation and every part is written new. That rewrite is also where kiosk mode, the no-click setting and the chart's workbook are lost.
Will the deck still play by itself?
It keeps the 8-second advance and the fade on each slide, and the loop flag. A click now also moves to the next slide, and the kiosk setting is gone.
Can the hidden slide be removed on the way?
Not on this route; it stays hidden in the deck. Routes to PDF, images and Markdown leave hidden slides out by default.
